Parallel Lines: Susan Lamdan
Working with Jacqueline on Parallel Lines was a learning experience for me.
I am forever mindful of the professionalism, thoroughness and attention she brought to the tremendous task. Her devotion to get things right was unflagging. Every map, photo and document was minutely adjusted to improve its quality whilst maintaining authenticity. She initiated creative maps in order to deepen the understanding of the prose, and tabulated prose for clarity, as appropriate, as well as inventing systems for proofing and cataloguing.
It is thanks to Jacqueline that we have Parallel Lines, a legacy book that will be relevant to many future generations.

Over some 20 years of working with Jacqs on everything from our initial logo to booklets, reports, various publicity and display items, and a quarterly newsletter, we have developed an excellent collaborative relationship that builds on our complementary eye for detail. A creative approach to the proofing process allows me full involvement with the design, and the freedom to try out alternative content and layout. We also succeeded to bring out 79 issues of the newsletter without a single missed deadline, albeit with a couple of late nights!

Little did any of us appreciate just how big a task had been undertaken … However, the catalyst came when Jacqueline was appointed to design, layout and coordinate the technical production… We met with her a couple of times and I went into great detail as to what I was looking for, right down to the colouring of the pages. I will never forget the feeling of exhilaration when she printed the first draft chapter. She had captured the essence of what I had in my mind all those years. Jacqueline proved to be equal to the job and began to see the project as a labour of love.

Jewish Glasgow is a treasure trove… Naturalisation certificates, concert programmes and even synagogue accounts are made to look interesting in Jacqueline Speyer Friedman’s lively design.

The overall presentation is in the form of a scrapbook, beautifully put together by Jacqueline Speyer Friedman, who uses a variety of layout styles and yet creates a sense of uniformity in her design.

Jacqs showcased us well, made us shine and look sophisticated. Her designs were classy yet conveyed the warmth of She’arim College of Jewish Studies for Women.

It has been a pleasure that Jacqueline has been my leading figure in producing printed material of all sorts over the past 20 years. The final products have been polished and aesthetically pleasing, and helped us make the major impact we wanted. She has produced pamphlets and promotional material, covers and full books, one of quite some complexity, often resourcing better images than we could find. She has taken me and my colleagues through every aspect of the printed material on time and at a reasonable cost. I look forward to further projects with her.
